The borage plant (Borago officinalis), also called borage or cucumber herb, is a well-known herb with blue flowers. It originated in countries around the Mediterranean and then spread across Europe and North America. Cold pressed borage oil is an oil that is cold pressed from the seeds of the borage plant. Borage oil is the richest natural source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). GLA helps with discomfort before and during menstruation1 . Biotin is good for the skin and vitamin B6 is good for the hormone balance. Unfortunately, this polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid is hardly found in food. Fortunately, the body itself can make GLA from (cis)linoleic acid. However, sometimes it can make sense to supplement this with a supplement. Golden Naturals Borage oil contains 1000 mg of pure borage oil per softgel capsule, of which 20% of the essential omega 6 fatty acid GLA (gamma linolenic acid). Well-known sources of GLA are borage oil and evening primrose oil. Of these two sources, borage oil contains the highest percentage of GLA (20%). One capsule of Borage oil provides 200 mg of GLA. To protect the fatty acids against oxidation, 10 mg of vitamin E has been added per capsule.
